Ways of Giving
Gifts to Dutchess Day School can be made in a variety of ways. All gifts provide immediate benefits to the School and are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.
Gifts of Cash
Please make checks payable to Dutchess Day School. A cash gift entitles the donor to an income tax deduction in the year in which the gift is made.
Contributions can be made by credit card using VISA, MasterCard, or American Express. For your convenience, contributions can also be made online. To contribute online, please click here. For questions, please contact Hillary Henderson.
Companies often sponsor matching gift programs that enhance their employees’ charitable contributions. When gifts are matched, DDS benefits from the increased donation and the donor often qualifies for a higher Gift Club category.
Gifts of Marketable Securities
Dutchess Day School will accept a gift of marketable securities in any amount. If you have held the security for more than one year, you may be eligible for an income tax deduction for the value of the security on the date of the gift and you will not incur capital gains tax liability on the excess of that value over your cost basis. To donate securities, please contact Vanessa Park in the development office at email@example.com.
The Business Office can send you payment reminders on any schedule that you prefer, or we can automatically charge your credit card at intervals with amounts that you specify.
Bequests, Remainder or Income Interests and Retirement Plan Benefits
Please see the Planned Giving tab for information about these gift vehicles.
DDS will accept certain gifts of real property or a remainder gift in real property if it has no mortgage, is immediately saleable and does not create a risk of imposing liability on the School under federal or state environmental laws. You may be eligible for an income tax deduction for the fair market value of an outright gift of property or for the actuarial value of a remainder interest in a property.
Dutchess Day School will accept gifts of life insurance policies both when you contribute an existing policy and when you pay for a new policy to be owned by the School. You may be eligible for an income tax deduction for the value (or your investment, if less), and for the post-gift premium payments.
Tangible Personal Property
The School will accept outright gifts of property such as paintings, silver, etc. if the property either meets the needs of the School or is readily saleable. Gifts of $5,000 or more must be accompanied by an independent, third-party appraisal. You may be eligible for an income tax deduction equal to the fair market value of gifts to be used by the School. For gifts offered for resale, you may be eligible for an income tax deduction equal to your cost (or the value, if less).
General Policies Regarding Gifts
Dutchess Day School’s Gift Acceptance Committee reviews all proposed gifts that present unusual circumstances or conditions and retains wide discretion to determine the acceptability of all gifts. All donors are encouraged to consult their attorneys and/or tax advisors to confirm the financial and legal implications of intended gifts.
If you have any questions, please contact Vanessa Park, Director of Development at firstname.lastname@example.org.
THANK YOU for your support of Dutchess Day School!
