Dutchess Day Announces New Acting Head of School

Dutchess Day School is pleased to announce the appointment of Nancy Hathaway as Acting Head for the 2010-2011 school year.

Nancy Hathaway brings a range of educational, financial and managerial experience to her new position as Acting Head of School. After working for fifteen years at Bankers Trust Company in the International Investment Management division in New York City, she held teaching positions at Dutchess Day School, Indian Mountain School and Greenwich Country Day School.

Nancy has a longstanding relationship with Dutchess Day School. Since she moved to Dutchess County full time in 1989 with her family, Nancy has been involved in every aspect of the school. She was an active volunteer while her two sons, Bradley ('96) and Christopher ('98), attended the school. She also served on the Dutchess Day School Board for nine years and was appointed Treasurer of the Board for three of those years. Most recently, she taught astronomy and history in the Upper School. Throughout the years, Nancy has been an avid supporter of the school's athletic program by attending many games and serving as a referee for field hockey and girls' lacrosse.

In addition to her involvement with Dutchess Day, Nancy has been a dedicated member of the Board of Directors for the Dutchess Land Conservancy for the past twenty years, including serving as Chairman of the Board for five years. Additionally, she is one of the lead coordinators on the Organizing Committee for the Millbrook Horse Trials and works on screening candidates for the rescue of golden retrievers.

Nancy graduated from Smith College with a bachelor's degree in economics and earned her master's in history from Western Connecticut State University. She lives in Millbrook with her husband, David, and is an avid rider and tennis player.
