Academic Program
Education at Dutchess Day is an active enterprise, led by a talented faculty who
love to teach.  High academic standards are maintained through a curriculum
designed to spark an excitement for learning. With varied programs, projects,
assignments and assessments, teachers consider students' individual
development. Each student is challenged to discover his or her own unique
strengths and interests. At every grade level students participate in activities that
allow them to connect their studies to everyday life, to the wider world and to key
events in history: community service, field trips, public speaking and performing,
assemblies, and special projects. Year by year, their experience here trains them
to become alert observers, fearless public speakers, confident researchers, and
fluid writers.

To ensure a challenging and appropriate curriculum for children from a wide age
range, we consider grades kindergarten-grade 4 as the lower school and grades
5-8, as the upper school.  Each has its own curriculum guide which presents in
detail the goals and activities for each grade across all disciplines.  The links
below contain descriptions of the lower school and upper school curricula.
