School History

Dutchess Day School was founded in 1955 by a group of parents interested in offering their children the advantages of an independent school in the Millbrook area. The community we serve has expanded to include students from numerous towns in New York and Connecticut. Still, the original sense of community established when three teachers and nineteen students first met in rented quarters continues to this day. Original founding members and former parents continue to work side by side with current parents to support and serve the Dutchess Day School community and to play an active role in the life of our school.
